All About Alésiah!
“You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time.” - Angela Davis
My name is Alésiah Manhoo and I am finishing my final year at the University of Florida in December 2025 with a double major in both Political Science and African American Studies. I am deeply passionate about justice, activism, and much more for nearly ten years. From young, I have been uniquely talented in crafting narratives for an array of purposes, including but not limited to creative, informational, and editorial pieces. It took little more than a writing exercise at the young age of of 9 to realize that writing is what I was meant to do with my life. Paired with my feverish interest in social stratification, the sociology of culture, discursive analysis and contemporary politics, I fell in love with academia and research. I proposed my first project in my first semester at the University of Florida and have happily taken on plenty of others in the semesters after. I intend to build upon my interests in a graduate program that blends sociology, political science, and area studies in an interdisciplinary manner. Not only will this allow me to explore all my areas of interest, it will help me foster new connections with various faculty members and professionals while allowing me to deepen the connections I've made thus far.
